Choosing payment methods for an iGaming cashier

Cards, bank payments, wallets and local methods: how to build a casino or sportsbook cashier that converts, pays out fast and stays compliant.

iGamingAPMsAPM guide

The cashier is the most important page in any casino or sportsbook. It’s where acquisition spend turns into revenue, and where a bad experience sends players to a competitor. Choosing the right payment methods for each market is the biggest decision you’ll make there.

Start with the market, not the method

Players in different countries pay in very different ways. Cards may lead in one market while instant bank payments or local wallets dominate the next. Before you add any method, check:

  • Is it allowed for gambling in this market? Several regulators restrict credit cards, credit-funded transfers or specific wallets for gambling, and some markets now block betting payments entirely.
  • Does it support payouts? A method that can only take deposits forces you to send winnings another way, which adds cost and friction.
  • Does the provider accept gambling traffic? Many wallets and schemes have their own gambling rules.

The main options

Cards. Cards are familiar and widely available, but gambling MCCs see higher decline rates, and some markets ban credit cards for gambling. Use routing and smart 3-D Secure to lift approvals. See card approval rate levers.

Open banking and instant bank transfers. Payments come straight from the player’s bank, with high approval rates, low cost, verified account names and fast payouts to the same account. They are strong for both deposits and withdrawals. See our pay by bank guide.

Digital wallets. Apple Pay and Google Pay bring tokenised, device-authenticated card payments with less friction. Gaming-focused e-wallets remain popular in many markets.

Local methods. Vouchers, local bank transfer schemes and instant payment systems are often the top method in their home markets.

Cashier design tips

  1. Order methods by market and by the player’s history. Put their last successful method first.
  2. Pre-fill amounts with common deposit values and the last deposit.
  3. Never leave a dead end. If a deposit fails, offer another method right there.
  4. Show withdrawal times honestly next to each method.
  5. Apply limits and responsible gambling tools inside the cashier, not as an afterthought.

Measure everything

Track deposit success rate, time to deposit and withdrawal time per method and per market. Small changes in method order or defaults often move conversion more than adding a new method.
