Most Belgians carry a Bancontact debit card, and Bancontact is the payment brand they trust most online. If you sell to Belgium, it should be in your checkout.
Three ways to pay
- Bancontact Card: the customer enters their card details and authenticates, like a card payment.
- Bancontact Pay: the customer scans a QR code or is sent straight to the Bancontact Pay or banking app on mobile and approves there. This used to be called Payconiq by Bancontact; the app was renamed in 2026.
- Bancontact One Click: returning customers pay with saved card details.
Bancontact and Wero
Bancontact Company is also a distributor of Wero, the pan-European wallet from EPI, and is bringing Wero acceptance to Belgian merchants. Expect to see “Bancontact” and “Wero” side by side at more checkouts.
Tips for Belgium
- Show the Bancontact logo, not just “card”. Belgians look for it.
- Default to the app flow on mobile to avoid typing card numbers.
- Offer One Click for repeat customers.
