How customers pay

  1. The customer chooses EPS at checkout and selects their bank.
  2. They are redirected to their online banking with the payment details pre-filled.
  3. They approve the transfer with their usual login and authentication.
  4. You receive a payment confirmation and the customer returns to your site.

EPS (eps-Überweisung) is the online payment method of the Austrian banks. Customers pay straight from their bank account using their own online banking, which makes it a trusted choice for shoppers who would rather not use a card.

How EPS works

The customer picks their bank, is sent to online banking with the payment filled in, and approves it with their normal authentication. The confirmation comes back immediately, so you can ship or credit the account without waiting for the money to arrive.

Why offer it

  • Trust. Customers use their own bank, so there’s no card data to share.
  • Guaranteed payments. Confirmed payments aren’t charged back like card payments.
  • Reach. It works for customers of most Austrian banks.

What’s next: Wero in Austria

In 2026, Erste Bank Oesterreich and Raiffeisen became shareholders in the European Payments Initiative to bring Wero to Austria. EPS remains the established method today, and we’ll keep you up to date as Wero arrives.

Tips for Austria

  • Show EPS alongside cards for Austrian customers.
  • Make bank selection quick with search and the most popular banks first.
  • Design for the redirect. Tell customers they’ll return to your site after approving.
