iDEAL is the most used online payment method in the Netherlands. Customers pay directly from their bank account, approve in their banking app and get instant confirmation, so it’s fast, familiar and trusted.
iDEAL is becoming Wero
iDEAL is now owned by the European Payments Initiative (EPI), the bank-backed company behind Wero. The move happens in phases:
- Co-branding (early 2026). Checkouts show “iDEAL | Wero”. The payment flow didn’t change.
- Wero rollout (from Q4 2026). Dutch shoppers can start paying with Wero, and merchants can offer it alongside iDEAL.
- iDEAL shutdown (expected 2027–2028). Merchants move fully to Wero.
If you accept iDEAL through Tuskpay, we handle the technical side of the migration with you.
Recurring payments
iDEAL itself is for one-off payments. Subscriptions are usually set up by taking a first iDEAL payment and then collecting later payments by SEPA Direct Debit. Wero plans its own subscription feature.
Tips for the Netherlands
- Show iDEAL | Wero first for Dutch customers. It’s what they look for.
- Let returning customers skip bank selection where supported.
- Plan your Wero switch, test conversion side by side, then cut over cleanly.
