Why local payment methods win at checkout

Cards are not the default everywhere. Offering the methods customers already use is one of the simplest ways to reduce checkout drop-off.

APMsConversion

When a customer reaches your checkout, they have already decided to buy. The only question left is whether you let them pay the way they want to.

In many markets that is not a card. It may be a digital wallet, a bank transfer app, a buy-now-pay-later plan or a voucher paid in cash at a local shop. If the method a customer trusts is missing, a share of them simply leave.

Familiar beats clever

People pay with what they know. A familiar logo at checkout signals that the payment will work and that their money is safe. An unfamiliar form asking for card details can feel like a risk, especially for a first purchase from a brand they have never used before.

One integration, many methods

The usual objection to alternative payment methods (APMs) is the work involved: each one has its own integration, settlement rules and reporting. That is the problem a payment platform should solve for you. With Tuskpay you connect once and switch methods on per market, with one set of reports and one settlement view.

Where to start

  1. Look at where your traffic comes from, not only where your sales come from today. Low conversion in a market is often a payment-method gap.
  2. Add the two or three most used local methods in each of your top markets.
  3. Show them first for visitors from that market, rather than hiding them behind a “more options” link.
  4. Measure checkout completion per method and per market, and keep adjusting.
