Card approval rates for gambling are rarely as high as operators would like, and in several European markets cards aren’t even what players reach for first. Local payment methods often bring faster deposits, higher success rates and verified account holders. Here’s a quick guide by market.
Gambling is licensed country by country. Before you enable any method, check that your licence covers the market, that the method’s scheme accepts gambling merchants and that local rules allow the flow. This guide is not legal advice.
Portugal: MB WAY and Multibanco
MB WAY gives instant, app-approved deposits and suits fast-moving play. Multibanco references are deferred, so they suit planned deposits better than in-play betting.
Spain: Bizum
Bizum has more than 30 million users and moves money instantly from the player’s bank. Players approve in their banking app, which also gives you a verified bank account holder.
Netherlands: iDEAL | Wero
iDEAL is the default way Dutch players pay online. It’s moving to Wero, so plan for the switch. See iDEAL is becoming Wero.
Belgium: Bancontact
Bancontact is the national brand. Offer the app flow on mobile and the card flow on desktop.
Austria: EPS
EPS is the Austrian banks’ own online bank transfer, with real-time confirmation.
Poland: BLIK
BLIK is the default for Polish players: a six-digit code from the banking app, confirmed in seconds.
Cross-border: paysafecard and Skrill
paysafecard and Skrill work across many markets. Skrill is commonly used for both deposits and withdrawals. paysafecard is mostly used for deposits, so plan another route for paying out winnings.
Don’t forget withdrawals
Most local bank methods are deposit-only. Decide upfront how you’ll pay winnings back to the player’s verified bank account, ideally the one they deposited from. See fast withdrawals and building an iGaming cashier.
